Case Study

Friesland Campina:
Compliance with Data Privacy Rules

FrieslandCampina is a cooperative of 11,476 dairy farms throughout the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. Their consumer brands are found in supermarkets, and the service sector uses their brands.

Ahead of the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation rollout, FrieslandCampina needed to bring its marketing and agency teams up to speed on the data privacy law. They asked me to develop and write a series of topical, in-depth how-to guides (7 in total).

Approach & Results

Working on tight deadlines, I dove into every facet of the GDPR: I had to become an ASAP mini-expert on things like Subject Access Requests and Data Breach Protocols.

From there, I translated company legalese into jargon-free language. Then I devised a practical structure that included an explanatory cover, a table of contents, a glossary, and FAQs.

After attending an industry meeting at the Privacy Council, the project director reported back: The guides were applauded as “a leading example on how to translate a difficult topic into understandable and practical language for the target audience.”

Job done! High fives!
